Sony Ericsson has kicked off a regional activation drive, beginning in Indonesia, to promote the camera function of its C510 mobile phone.

The ‘Spread the Smiles’ campaign taps on the new Smile Shutter of the Cyber-shot mobile phone. Iris is charged with the overall campaign development. In Indonesia, the campaign taps on local TV stars to help build a ‘smiles’ wall.
“A smile is an infectious thing and the Spread the Smiles campaign aims to capture the brightest smiles across Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand with the Smile Shutter on the C510,” said Peter Ang, vice-president, marketing, Asia-Pacific region at Sony Ericsson.
“What we have done is to create a Smiles Wall where members of the public can use the C510 to capture their smiles, print the photos and mount them on the wall. In Indonesia, we held this event over a weekend at the National Stadium in Jakarta which attracted close to 3,000 people.”
“In addition to promoting the key features and fun element of the phone, we are also spreading the smiles by donating money for every smile collected. Thus far, we have raised close to US$5,000 for the Yayasan Cinta Anak Bangsa, education of underprivileged children and drug prevention programme in Indonesia.”
Launched in March, the campaign will continue through to June in Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand.
