Wondering whether Nokia X6 16 GB should be your choice or the baby Sony Ericsson XperiaX10 or let us call it Xperia X8? What if the Xperia model fails to provide the satisfaction the Finnish proprietors so guarantee? Or perhaps you are confused as to choose the sound and camera functionality of Xperia over those of Nokia?

Hmmm. Maybe we can sort things for you. At SE-Lifestyle, we are always eager to help. So why not go through the following comparison between Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 and Nokia X6 16 GB, Nokia’s almost flagship phone (pun intended)? Yeah? Well, read on then.

  • First and foremost the OS or Operating System to be specific.

X8 runs on Android 1.6Donut (Sony Ericsson promises upgrades of all its Android phones to v2.2 sometime in the Q3 of this year) whereas X6 sports of the Series 60 Symbian OS v9.4, the major reason why Sony Ericsson Vivaz didn’t make it to the run. Sony Ericsson promises upgrades of all its Android phones to v2.2 sometime in the Q3 of this year. Symbian is right now, an outdated OS to work onto. Android is faster and smoother. Android allows you to run applications written not only in Java but also other programming languages. On top of that, its an Open Source developmental project. So you know, a hundred options. Its advanced and complex operating system gives you good satisfaction over those of Symbian run phones.

  • Processing Strength

Let’s check upon the CPUs of both the phones. Xperia X8 has a 600 MHz processor compared to Nokia’s ARM11 434 MHz processor. Evidently, X8 functions more fluidly than X6. Faster selections, processing and outcomes :D

  • Next let us move on to the Networks supported by these two high-end phones.

Both X8 and X6 are 3G phones along with the more traditional 2G enabled.

X8 specification-

3G Network HSDPA 900 / 2100

X6 specification-

  • Let’s move on to the general dimensions and Weight

Xperia X8 Shakira is of the following dimensions 99 x 54 x 15 mm(3.9 x 2.1 x 0.6 inches) and weighs hardly 104 g. Compared to that, Nokia X6 is of 111 x 51 x 13.8 mm and weighs a bit more, that is, 122 g. So you know now, which will be heavier and which easy to carry.

  • Next is the Screen specifications or the Display, as is more popularly used.

Xperia X8 has a 320 x 480 pixels (HVGA) and16,777,216 color TFT capacitive touchscreen, that is, approximately, 3 inches. The screen, thankfully, is scratch resistant. And has the Timescape UI, that has made Xperia a brand in itself. It also has the standard Accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate.

Compared to that, Nokia X6 sports a a similar TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors, like that of Shakira. Dimensions are slightly different being 360 x 640 pixels, that is, 3.2 inches. Nokia standard proximity sensor for auto turn-off, the Accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate and a similar scratch-resistant screen are other features of Nokia X6. Not much of a difference here except the fact that the X8 touchscreen responds better than its Nokia counterpart.

  • Alright, next in line for discussion are the very essential  Camera properties.  One reason, Sony Ericsson is popular between most of us is its camera quality. One word for it, splendid!

Xperia X8 has a 3.2 MP with image capture dimensions  limited to 2048×1536 pixels. But there is no flash included which is so sad and a big flaw in the model.  The cool Geo- tagging feature is enabled in this model. Video capture is the standard VGA @30 frames per second. Unfortunately, there is no secondary camera.

Nokia X6, on the other hand, includes a 5 MP with image capture worth 2592×1944 pixels, the standard Nokia Carl Zeiss optics (worthless if compared to any Sony Ericsson lens). A dual LED flash is included along with Video light. The camera comes with an auto-focus option. Geo-tagging is enabled. And standard Video Capture at @30fps. Nokia X6 has a secondary camera in the front which gives a video capture ofQCIF@15fps.

I know many of us get fooled by the MP figure. But let me tell you this, that, even a Sony Ericsson 2 MP camera excels over a Nokia 5 MP. Not only in pixel graphics but in quality. The image breaks only after stretching longer than the one in Nokia.

  • Next, we have to include other multimedia options. Let’s talk a bit about the Sound system in both the phones.

To be very honest, we never liked Nokia sounds ever. They may be louder, but there’s always a lot of noise and crass that hurts the ears. Sony Ericsson, on the other hand offers a refined sound system. Features apart from that such as vibration mode, standard MP3 ringtones etc are similar. Both Xperia X8  and Nokia X6 include the much-longed for 3.5 mm audio jack for better multimedia experience. X6 has additional stereo speakers. Oh, by the way, Xperia has the famous Mega Bass equalizer included ;)

  • A little discussion on Data & Connectivity is a must for any purchaser of a mobile phone considering its almost a portable small personal computer.

Xperia X8 has GPRS of Class 10, that is about 32 – 48 kb/s. Faster blogging in EDGE of Class 10, upload-download limited to 236.8 kb/s. As previously stated, its a 3G enabled phone. WLAN, that is, standard Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g)option is included. A Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP with no Infrared port and v2.0 microUSB are other such features.

Nokia X6 is slightly faster than Xperia X8 in this regard. with a Class 32 GPRS, a similar Class 32 EDGE, a really fast 3G connectivity, that is, approximately 3.6 Mbps. Similar to X8, it also has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g. Bluetooth and USB features are same. Nokia X6 doesn’t include an Infrared port either.

  • Now to add Memory specifications.

The golden rule that applies here is the higher the internal memory, the more you can add apps of your choice and the higher the external memory, the more you can save multimedia files. Now, Xperia X8 Shakira gives us unlimited phone book and photo-call records. Its Internal memory is 128 MB and includes Micro SD data card (2GB included) and extendable up to 16GB.

Nokia on the other hand although provides unlimited phone book entries and fields, but the number of photo calls is limited to 30 days at the maximum. As its name confirms, it comes with an internal memory of 16 GB! But there’s no option of a card slot. That means 16 GB is maximum. Advantage over Sony Ericsson model is that at X8, you will have to purchase the 16 GB card separately.

  • Features such as Messaging are similar in both phones. Both support threaded SMS, MMS, Email, Push email, Instant Messaging. Standard HTML browser, A-GPS, downloadable Games. Java, in Xperia, allows third-party applications. For Nokia, its MIDP 2.
  • Xperia X8 has social networking apps like Facebook app pre-installed unlike Nokia. Google Maps(c0mpared to Nokia’s OVI Maps), the standard Google Search,  Gmail, YouTube streamings, Calendar, Google Talk ( part of IM features) are other inclusions. Nokia X6 has a TV-out which X8 lacks.
  • In terms of Battery, Nokia scores better. While Xperia X8 uses a Li-Po 1200 mAh battery, Nokia has Li-Ion 1320 mAh (BL-5J) one which gives a standby time of 420-450 hours depending on network and a talk time of 11 hours in a 2G network.
  • Xperia X8 Shakira is available in White, Dark Blue/ White, Aqua Blue/ White, Pink/ White, Silver/ White whereas Nokia X6 16 GB in Black, Pink on White, Yellow on White

That’s all as of now. Hope this comparison chart will help you out.
