Most of us have heard about  Xperia X10 the great giant and the first android phone from Sony Ericsson but are painfully reminded of how expensive it is.

But wait! Sony has its smaller brother for you with Qwerty keypad, Xperia X10 Mini pro.

This phone runs on the same Android 1.6 Cupcake (Sony Ericsson has promised to upgrade its all Android phones to Android 2.1 Eclairs in Q3 of this year) polished with Sony Ericssson’s Timescape UI.The other phone that comes in this segment is Nokia’s N97 Mini. Younger brother of N97 which is the first touchscreen phone of N-series, N97 Mini runs on the Nokia’s  Symbian OS v9.4, Series 60 rel. 5.

In dimensions N97 mini is 113 x 52.5 x 14.2 mm weighs 138g and the X10 Mini pro is 90 x 52 x 17 mm in dimension and weighs 120g. Comparing both size X10 mini pro will fit easier in your pocket than N97 mini. While inserting and taking out from the pocket often our phone gets scratches. But don’t worry guys the XPERIA X10 mini pro comes with scratch resistant surface but the nokia’s mini lacks this quality.x10mini pro hand

That’s all about there introduction now lets get more technical.

  • CPU’S

SE’s X10 Mini Pro has Qualcomm MSM7227 600MHz processor which delivers a lag free performance with Android 1.6. whereas the Nokia has its old ARM 11 434 MHz processor which we think should be atleast 600Mhz.

  • Network

Regarding network both have same 4 band GSM receiver i.e GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900

but they differ in 3G networks though both have HSPDA

but N97 mini has HSDPA 900/1900/2100 and HSDPA 850/1900/2100- American Version

Xperia Mini pro has HSDPA 900/2100 and HSDPA 850/1900/2100

  • Display

The first thing we observe in phone is the display that how big is its screen.

N97 mini got 3.2 inches screen with 360 x 640 pixel display and X10 Mini pro 2.55 inches with 240 x 320 pixel display

N97 mini comes with TFT Resistive screen with 16M colors

X10 mini comes with TFT Capacitive screen with 16M colors

Here X10 mini pro steals the tag from N97 mini. As we know capacitive screen is more responsive than the resistive one.

  • Data and Connectivity

Everyone wants their phone to have lots of connectivity options so guys both these have that.

X10 mini pro has Class 10 GPRS and EDGE while the Nokia’s mini has Class 32 GPRS ans EDGE.

And if we consider the High speed data X10 Mini Pro comes with HSDPA(3.6Mbps) and HSUPA while the N97 mini lacks HSUPA.

Both these phones have WLAN i.e WiFi802.11b/g but the N97 mini has UPnP technology additional with normal WiFi and we all know about Bluetooth and USB so these phones have Bluetooth but the SE mini got V2.1 with A2DP and Nokia’s mini has V2.0 with A2DP.

USB port is also there in both and its the same i.e V2. These phones also comes with GPS with A-GPS support

  • Multimedia Features

That was all about the connectivity stuff now lets proceed towards the second thing that user wants to be excellent in his phone i.e Multimedia.

So Lets start with CAMERA. Close windowBoth these phones packs 5MP auto focus snapper which can click up to 2560х1920 pixels of  picture. Nokia uses  Carl Zesis optics where as Sony uses its own traditional CMOS sensor and we all know about the quality of SE camera we have seen there Cybershot series already. Regarding video both record VGA @ 30 FPs. http://www.letmedefine.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/Xperia_X10-mini_Back_Black.jpgNow when it comes to Music and sound quality…. Have you ever heard about the Sony Ericsson Walkman if yes then you never have doubt on SE audio, its awesome as usual. Both phones can play MP3/AAC/MP4 etc etc etc. files and you can also play the DIVX movies via 3rd party application support and many of them are available for free.

  • Browser

Many of us or i must say 80% of mobile users are using mobile browser for posting scraps in orkut, or tweeting, or updating status in facebook and surfing etc etc …  So one wants the browser to be a remarkable one. The Nokia N97 mini uses the S60 OS browser i.e WAP 2.0/xHTML, HTML with flash lite 3.0 supportand the X10 mini pro have the Android HTML browser but it lacks flash support but don’t worry guys when sony updates, there android phones you will get full flash support in browser.

  • Miscellaneous

Some miscellaneous things about these phone. Both have:-

  1. Accelerometer for UI rotation
  2. Java (in X10 mini Pro Via 3rd party and its free)
  3. 3.5mm audio jack
  4. microSD, up to 16GB
  5. Geo-tagging
  6. SMS, MMS, Email, Push Email, IM(X10 Have threaded view i.e conversation or chat style option also in SMS)
  7. Phone book and call records – practically unlimited
  8. Flash and video light(N97 mini has dual flash)
  9. Full QWERTY keyboard

  • Conclusion

Some people say android does not have much available applications!!! Sorry guys you are wrong the android market share is increasing every sec there are more than 80,000 applications available and most of them are free where the symbian market is little slow its growth is like paused. Final words i can say the Xperia X10 Mini Pro is complete package for developers as they get awesome Cybershot camera, Walkman music and ANDROID, where as N97 MINI is nice phone with decent music and nice 5MP snapper.

This Blog supports X10 Mini Pro over N97 Mini and so as I,
But I have some concerns before buying this SE phone.
As mentioned on other blogs X10 Mini supports lesser applications
from Android market because of its Low resolution, Also the battery
is 950 m.a.h compared to 1300 m.a.h of N97 mini and is noticed of
    getting drained on Minimal usage.
The device is not at all lively in terms of color and touch screen feel when compared to X10 (I don’t get why it’s called X10 Mini then).
I had a hand-on this device and I believe the screen size is sufficient for a Mini smart phone and all routine operations.
Conclusion is I’m confused on buying this Phone and waiting for X8 to launch
But if nothing changes and only size then X10 Mini pro will be best buy.

  2. Ultimate comparison but i am late to come over your review :(
i already bought N97 though i am a SE fan but i bought it due to its
    Formal look which i guess x10 lacks….

  3. monsterlog says:

Actually, the X10 Mini Pro’s Qualcomm SoC contains the very same ARM11 Core as the N97 mini’s. So speed differences are down to Symbian’s inability to render more than 16 frames per second in UI widgets, the slower CPU clock speed and perhaps sloppy coding.
Furthermore: The camera module of the X10 Mini Pro is not part of the Cybershot branding and the imminent update to Android 2.1 will not bring full flash support as only version 2.2 supports that. But its still a very decent and capable device.

  4. niyamath says:

but i like n97 mini more than x10 because it can be used roughly but not x10, because it is delicate
