Sony Ericsson on Thursday announced the launch of two radio-packed mobile phones with AM facility targeting cities without FM.It also plans to roll out more India-made phones designed for local requirements.
Research showed that there is demand for phones with AM facility as FM is available in only about 53 cities in the country. Therefore, we have launched these two attractively priced phones to cater to the needs of not just major cities but B&C towns as well,” its country manager, Mr Sudhin Mathur, said.
The company has manufacturing pacts with Flextronics and Foxconn in Chennai with a capacity for about 10 million phones a year by 2010.
Addressing a press conference here, Mathur said, “We are witnessing an unprecedented growth in smaller towns and cities and plan to increase our geographical presence in such places with the launch of Radio Phone R300 and R306 (to be launched in a couple of weeks).”
The Indian market is adding about 6.5 million phones per month. Of them, even if one were to factor that about 25 per cent of them are replacement phones, the market for new ones was constantly going up, he said.
The company currently offers about five models of India-made phones.

Phonearena does an indepth preview. Here are a few excerpts from the Preview itself.
W902
The key feature for all devices in Sony Ericsson’s Walkman series have always been its music features with the camera always staying in the shadows. Apparently, it’s time for a change and the new W902 is the messenger of a new era. It is a high class phone equipped with a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and „photo flash”, accelerometer and many musical features, which are in combination with the SE new headphones (HPM-77) included in the package.
W595
Sony Ericsson W580 is one of the most successful models from the Walkman series of the manufacturer. A proof for that are the multiple color versions it is offered in. Not long ago, its successor was announced. It supports 3G, the camera now offers more options and its resolution has increased, there are stereo speakers and the interesting “share jack”, which will be a part of the package. The share jack allows you to plug in two sets of headphones and listen to your favorite tunes with a friend.
W302
In order to make the middle and entry level models more attractive, sometimes, the manufacturers apply a simple trick – they use the design of a high-class phone and trim off the hardware features. That’s the case with the new Sony Ericsson Walkman, W302. It looks like the W890, but with lower specifications

Smape a renowned cell review site, previewed the C905 and has nothing but praises to offer to the 8 megapixel beast. Here are a few excerps from the review itself.
As seen from the samples, the photo quality is perfect; the competitors can do nothing but be jealous of Sony Ericsson. Unfortunately the quality of video remains just as unimpressive as it used to in multiple earlier models; for instance, K750i suffered from this flaw yet it didn’t prevent the handset from becoming a bestseller. C905 sports exceptionally high chances of taking a top position in the charts. The model looks extremely interesting and is, of course, a very actual addition to the cell phone market. A review of the upcoming C905 gadget will be available shortly, disclosing all the secrets of the powerful and versatile SE product which, if the release date doesn’t get shifted because of an inconvenience, will enter retail sale in October.

Eldar, from mobile-review It should’ve been cancelled raised many eyebrows. Throughout the review Eldar could not find a single point on which to compliment the phone. In fact, other sites such as Smape and Gsmarena have showered the phone with praises. On the other hand, same cannot be said for the brands such as Nokia and Sansung. According to Eldar, The C905, which is to compete against the Samsung’s innov8 uses a Samsung sensor, the credibility of which has been murdered by SE themselves.
The guns on yourself now, whom to trust?? Have your say.
